Inspiration
Dogs have been part of our history for centuries. This attraction between dog and man has been reflected in the works of great artists, writers and poets.
This strong bond we have with out pets is exhibited in so many different ways. For me, as an artist, it was this same attraction that inspired me to focus on dogs in my art. Motivated by the same pure love that exists between you and your pet, after I decided to paint a portrait of my dog, Sydney, this moment ignited a passion so strong in me…and my work took a new turn.
As a dog lover, i was fascinated with more than just Sydney’s image and pose but rather… that feeling that you get when the love is so deep… this was what i was capturing.
As an painter, her poses became sculptural to me as i saw interesting lines, forms and colour. Fascinated by color and movement not only in the pose, but also in a brushstroke of color; sometimes it about transparencies in color, one layer on top of another; other times it is about texture.
The Canvas Dog Studio was born out of this desire… To look at a painting and capture this bond … in a piece of fine art.
The Artist’s Muse
Cisco is my muse and inspiration, and I just can’t resist his expressive playful gestures.
He gives me so much joy that I want to share it in my art…as it is the spirit and personality of an animal that speaks to me in my paintings.
